Run the Kiawah Island Golf Resort Marathon on Charleston real estate. On the beautiful barrier island known as Kiawah Island, about 25 miles southwest of Charleston real estate, sits a breathtaking gated beach and golf resort with beautiful golf courses, stunning beaches, and spacious villas. This awe-inspiring environment has been the home of the Kiawah Island Golf Resort Marathon for 40 years, and the many racers who come from far and wide for this ultimate marathon experience are able to take advantage of all this spectacular resort has to offer. Run a Course Winding Through Gorgeous Coastal Charleston Real Estate

Many of the runners consider Charleston home and come out to the barrier island specifically for the marathons from their Charleston real estate. The courses begin and end in the lovely Island community of East Beach Village, and as the racers run they pass the amazing views of marshes, maritime forests, and distinguished homes that only this Island paradise can provide. As they say, “The only thing more wonderful than the scenery is the moment when you cross the finish line.” This is now the 40th year that the racers have been taking advantage of this life-changing marathon experience, and it promises to be just as memorable as ever.

Marathon packages, including two nights accommodation at the resort with housekeeping provided, the pre-race celebration on Friday night with its delicious buffet, and early registration for either the full or half marathon, are already available. Of course, the package rates vary depending on the event and the number of runners registering, as well as the type of accommodation that is chosen. Remember that the marathon entry fees are non-refundable. Those who sign up for either the full or half marathon before the 30th of November save $20 on the registration fee. Participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible as a limited number of entries are available. Runners in the half marathon must be at least 14, and those taking on the full marathon experience must be at least 18. Athletes with disabilities are always encouraged to join in the challenge and are asked to contact the resort after they register. Go to the Camp Happy Days Gala and Help Kids with Cancer Go to Camp

Everyone living in Charleston supports Camp Happy Days for kids with cancer.Nestled on a beautiful piece of Charleston property, Camp Happy Days welcomes children battling cancer who are living in Charleston and all over South Carolina, without charging any fees to their families. This inspirational camp’s summer program is by far its most popular, but they also offer year-round programs including ones that are age specific, so that children can meet others like themselves and build relationships. From family counseling and financial assistance, to “dream dates” and hospital visits, these programs have been designed with help from the medical community to provide options for strengthening the physical, psychological, and emotional health of children fighting cancer and the families that support them. As they say, “What cancer takes away, Camp Happy Days helps give back.”

Every year since 1989, the Cabooty Party has been raising money for this life-changing camp. It was named after Allan Cabading “Cabooty” who is a survivor of pediatric cancer and has gone from being a former camper to a current camp counselor. In the beginning, the Party was just a small gathering in Allan’s home for those living in Charleston trying to raise money for Camp Happy Days. Through the years it has grown into the camp’s largest fundraiser of the year. On Friday, November 17th the Heroes of Hope Gala will be celebrating the 28th Anniversary of the Cabooty Party presented by APECS Aerospace in Association with Heritage Pools. The Gala begins at 7 p.m. and guests will enjoy live music by Super Deluxe, as well as filling hors d’oeuvres. The evening will also offer a silent and live auction for those who attend along with an open bar, and as always, all the proceeds from the fundraiser with directly benefit Camp Happy Days.

Volunteers Living in Charleston and Beyond Make the Camp Happen Every Year

Those who want to do more and feel called to give of their hearts and hands to these precious kids are encouraged to contact the camp directly. The camp itself is always in need of volunteers, and serving as a camp counselor is often at the top of the list for those looking to be involved. However, there are many ways to impact the lives of children at Camp Happy Days. Certified lifeguards are a necessity, as well as skilled seamstresses and photographers. Even videographers who want to volunteer to change the lives of children dealing with cancer can make a difference at this amazing camp. There are so many different facets to what makes this camp accomplish all it does that there’s something for everyone’s skillset -- from medical staff to office help. Volunteers are the reason this camp is able to meet its goals and fulfill its mission of service. To ask questions and get involved, contact Julia at julia@camphappydays.com.
