Charleston home owners do the Turkey Day Run.Get some fresh air and exercise the morning of Thanksgiving before returning to your Charleston home to feast and relax. The 40th Annual Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble is coming to Charleston. Taking place on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23rd, 2017, this 5K and children’s run is a fun way to burn off some calories before indulging in the big meal. This United States Track and Field certified five kilometer run will go through historic downtown Charleston real estate and then out to the peninsula. Runners will take off from Marion Square at 9 a.m. and can enjoy beautiful sights and historic landmarks along this mostly flat course. Early registration has ended, but anyone who would like to participate can sign up online, at the Race Expo on Wednesday, November 22nd for $35 or $40 with a t-shirt, or on race day for $45.

Get the Kids in Your Charleston Home Involved in the Fun Run

The Children’s Fun Run will take place at Marion Square starting at 10 a.m. There will be four heats divided by age group. The first race will be a 25 meter run for children 3 and under. Next will be a 50 meter run for 4 and 5 year olds. The 6 and 7 year olds will run 100 meters at 10:10 and the 8 through 10 year olds will run 200 meters at 10:15 a.m. All children will get a participation prize and entry is only $10 per child. This entry fee includes a t-shirt, a bib, and the prize. Register online, in person at the Expo or on site the morning of the race. Space is limited so try to register as soon as possible.

Proceeds from this race will go to help local charities. What a great way to start off this day of giving thanks by helping those in need in the community. Anyone who is not into running can consider volunteering for this event or coming to cheer on the runners and participate in the post-race party. There will be tons of fun available after the race to those who call Charleston home. Children can jump on bouncy castles, go down slides, get their picture taken with Tom the Turkey, and have their faces painted. There will also be live music, food, and beer for those 21 and over.
